About The Zawose Queens
The Zawose Queens are a Tanzanian duo from the Zawose musical family, rooted in the vocal and instrumental traditions of the Gogo people. Pendo and Leah Zawose pair multipart singing and traditional percussion with electronic production on their debut album, Maisha, which includes the songs “Maisha” and “Mapendo.”
The Zawose Queens made their UK live debut at WOMAD in 2023. They later brought material from Maisha to Glastonbury Festival in 2024.
