About Thelma Houston
Thelma Houston is an American soul and disco singer, born in Leland, Mississippi, in 1946. After recording with the Art Reynolds Singers, she released the Jimmy Webb-produced album Sunshower and later joined Motown. She is best known for “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” which earned her a Grammy Award, and for songs including “Saturday Night, Sunday Morning.”
Thelma Houston has headlined intimate rooms including Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles, performing her soul and disco repertoire with a live band. She has also presented that repertoire at Feinstein’s at the Nikko in San Francisco.
