Tony Christie in Stralsund

Tony Christie is an English pop singer born Anthony Fitzgerald in Conisbrough, South Yorkshire, in 1943. He began his solo recording career in 1966 and became known for early-1970s songs including “Las Vegas,” “I Did What I Did for Maria,” “(Is This the Way to) Amarillo” and “Avenues and Alleyways.” He also sang the role of Magaldi on the original album recording of Evita, while “Amarillo” returned to the UK chart through a 2005 Comic Relief release. In 2009, he performed on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival; he returned in 2022 for the Acoustic Stage.
