Artist
Tony Succar is a Peruvian-American percussionist, bandleader and producer born in Lima. He plays salsa and Latin jazz, and is best known for Unity: The Latin Tribute to Michael Jackson, which recast songs including “Billie Jean” and “Smooth Criminal” for a Latin ensemble. His album Más de Mí earned him Latin Grammy Awards for Best Salsa Album and Producer of the Year. In 2015, Unity was staged at Miami’s Olympia Theater and filmed as a concert special for PBS. Succar led the orchestra from percussion while guest singers performed his salsa arrangements of the Michael Jackson catalogue.
