Tortoise Matsumoto in Tokyo

Tortoise Matsumoto is a Japanese singer-songwriter and actor, born in 1966 and best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Ulfuls. His voice is central to the band’s best-known songs, including “Guts Da Ze!!,” “Banzai: Suki de Yokatta” and “Ashita ga Arusa,” while his solo catalogue includes the album FIRST. At Expo ’70 Commemorative Park, he fronted Ulfuls’ recurring outdoor concert Yassa!, first held in 2000. He took songs from FIRST on his first solo tour in 2009, then returned to the band’s large outdoor format for Fukkatsu no Yassa!! in 2014, which marked Ulfuls’ return to the stage in Osaka.
