Artist
Uli Jon Roth is a German guitarist and composer, born in Düsseldorf in 1954, whose music covers hard rock, psychedelic rock and classically informed instrumental work. He joined Scorpions in 1973 and played on albums including In Trance, Virgin Killer and Taken by Force; his compositions from that period include “The Sails of Charon.” After leaving the group, he formed Electric Sun and released Earthquake. Scorpions’ 1978 concerts at Nakano Sun Plaza in Tokyo, featuring Uli Jon Roth on lead guitar, supplied the recordings for much of the live album Tokyo Tapes. In 1998 he toured Europe with Joe Satriani and Michael Schenker as part of G3, then reunited with his former band for part of its 2006 performance at Wacken Open Air. The Tokyo Tapes Revisited tour later placed his 1970s repertoire at the centre of his own band concerts. His shows feature a full band and extended electric-guitar passages; set lists have combined Scorpions-era songs, Electric Sun material and solo instrumentals played on the custom Sky Guitar he developed.
