Artist
Viikate is a Finnish rock and metal band formed in Kouvola in 1996 by Kaarle and Simeoni Viikate. Its Finnish-language songs draw on heavy metal, rautalanka guitar music and iskelmä melancholy. The band’s catalogue includes the albums Noutajan valssi and Marraskuun lauluja, as well as songs such as “Pohjoista viljaa” and “Viina, terva ja hauta.” Viikate has performed at Tuska Open Air in Helsinki and Nummirock in Kauhajoki, taking its repertoire beyond its Kouvola roots to major Finnish metal festivals. The concert format is a full rock-band performance led by singer and guitarist Kaarle Viikate.
