Wim Mertens in Warsaw

Wim Mertens is a Belgian composer, pianist and countertenor, born in Neerpelt in 1953. His music uses repetition, spare melodic figures and distinctive high-register vocals. He is best known for works including “Struggle for Pleasure,” “Close Cover” and the album Maximizing the Audience, while his early recordings were made under the name Soft Verdict. The Inescapable Tour revisited music from across four decades of his catalogue, bringing established pieces together with later compositions. His concerts have taken two principal forms: solo performances for piano and voice, and chamber arrangements performed with the Wim Mertens Ensemble.
