About Woods of Birnam
Woods of Birnam is a German indie pop and rock band formed in Dresden in 2011 by actor and musician Christian Friedel and members of Polarkreis 18. The group is known for Shakespeare-inspired songwriting, its self-titled debut album and songs including “I’ll Call Thee Hamlet” and “The Healer.”
The band’s stage history grew out of Roger Vontobel’s production of Hamlet, in which the musicians performed live and Christian Friedel played the title role at Staatsschauspiel Dresden. The concert-theatre productions Searching for William and Grace developed that format further, placing the songs and the band at the centre of performances led by Christian Friedel.
