Ben Caplan is a Canadian singer-songwriter and performer born in Hamilton, Ontario, and based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He plays folk rooted in blues and klezmer, led by a rough baritone and theatrical delivery. His work includes the albums In the Time of the Great Remembering and Birds with Broken Wings, as well as “Down to the River” and the song cycle Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story. In 2017, Ben Caplan performed Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, fronting the musicians onstage in the production created with playwright Hannah Moscovitch and director Christian Barry. The show moved to New York in 2018 for an Off-Broadway run at 59E59 Theaters.
