YAMATO the drummers of Japan is a Japanese taiko ensemble founded in Nara Prefecture in 1993. The group is known for theatrical percussion works including Chousensha: The Challengers and Tenmei, built around Japanese drums, coordinated movement and ensemble rhythm. The ensemble performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1998 and followed that appearance with international theatre tours. Its productions feature instruments ranging from handheld drums to the large odaiko, and its London engagements have included performances at the Peacock Theatre.
