Artist
Zabranjeno pušenje is a Bosnian rock band formed in Sarajevo in 1980 and closely associated with the New Primitivism movement. Its garage-edged rock and narrative lyrics reached a wide Yugoslav audience through the debut album Das ist Walter and songs including “Zenica Blues,” “Selena” and “Balada o Pišonji i Žugi.” At a 1984 show in Rijeka, a remark about a failed Marshall amplifier was interpreted as a reference to Josip Broz Tito, prompting a public controversy and cancelled dates. After the wartime split, the Sejo Sexon-led lineup resumed touring in the 1990s and later played anniversary concerts at Skenderija and Dom sportova. The band plays most often in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, and also returns to audiences in Slovenia and Serbia.
