Donny McCaslin in Brooklyn

Donny McCaslin is an American saxophonist and bandleader, born in Santa Cruz, California, whose music encompasses contemporary jazz, post-bop, rock and electronic textures. His albums include Casting for Gravity, Fast Future and Beyond Now. He also played saxophone on David Bowie’s final studio album, Blackstar, alongside members of his working quartet. McCaslin’s quartet was performing at 55 Bar in Greenwich Village when Bowie heard the group in 2014 and recruited its musicians for the sessions that followed. McCaslin subsequently toured material from Beyond Now with an electric band and has continued to lead his own groups at New York jazz clubs including the Village Vanguard.
