Al Green is an American soul and gospel singer, born in Forrest City, Arkansas, in 1946. His recordings for Hi Records, many produced by Willie Mitchell, established his warm falsetto on songs including “Tired of Being Alone,” “Let’s Stay Together,” “I’m Still in Love with You” and “Love and Happiness.” After becoming pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Memphis in the 1970s, Green made church performance central to his musical life and spent long periods away from secular touring. He performed at Glastonbury Festival in 1999 and returned for further concert runs at intervals. In 2019, his first tour in seven years included the Chicago Theatre and New York’s Radio City Music Hall.

Thelma Houston is an American soul and disco singer, born in Leland, Mississippi, in 1946. After recording with the Art Reynolds Singers, she released the Jimmy Webb-produced album Sunshower and later joined Motown. She is best known for “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” which earned her a Grammy Award, and for songs including “Saturday Night, Sunday Morning.” Thelma Houston has headlined intimate rooms including Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles, performing her soul and disco repertoire with a live band. She has also presented that repertoire at Feinstein’s at the Nikko in San Francisco.
