Andrew Bird & Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Chicago

Andrew Bird is a Chicago-born American singer-songwriter, violinist and whistler, born in 1973. After playing violin with Squirrel Nut Zippers, he led Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire before pursuing a solo career rooted in alternative folk and chamber pop. His best-known records include The Mysterious Production of Eggs, Armchair Apocrypha and Noble Beast, while “A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left” and “Pulaski at Night” became signature songs. The annual Gezelligheid concert series began at Fourth Presbyterian Church in 2009, establishing a winter tradition built around violin, guitar, whistling and live looping. In 2022, he joined Iron & Wine for the Outside Problems tour, bringing their separate sets and joint performances to outdoor venues. The itinerary included Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Chicago Symphony Orchestra is an American orchestra founded in 1891 by conductor Theodore Thomas. Its extensive recording catalogue includes Fritz Reiner’s interpretations of Richard Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra and Béla Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, as well as Gustav Mahler symphonies conducted by Georg Solti. The orchestra gave its first concert at the Auditorium Theatre in 1891 and moved into Orchestra Hall in 1904. It began its summer residency at the Ravinia Festival in 1936, adding open-air concerts to its annual season. In 1971, Georg Solti led its first European tour.
