About Anita Baker

Anita Baker is an American R&B and soul singer, born in Toledo in 1958 and raised in Detroit. She first recorded with Chapter 8 before beginning a solo career with the album Songstress. Her album Rapture established the quiet-storm sound associated with her voice and produced “Sweet Love” and “Caught Up in the Rapture”; later staples include “Giving You the Best That I Got” and “Body and Soul.”

In 2018, Anita Baker began a farewell concert series that took her to theatres and arenas. She returned for a limited residency at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas in 2022, then played US arenas in 2023 on The Songstress Tour, named after her debut album.
