Artist
Anoushka Shankar is a British-American sitarist and composer, born in London in 1981 and trained by her father, Ravi Shankar. Her releases include Rise, Traveller, which draws on Indian classical and flamenco traditions, and Land of Gold, written in response to the refugee crisis. At 13, she gave her first public sitar performance at Siri Fort in New Delhi and subsequently spent years appearing in concert with Ravi Shankar. At the 2002 Concert for George at the Royal Albert Hall, she conducted the Indian ensemble and played sitar in Ravi Shankar’s composition Arpan. She later toured music from Traveller and Land of Gold with her own ensemble. She has performed at WOMAD on multiple occasions and has also appeared at Glastonbury Festival.
