Baaba Maal is a Senegalese singer born in Podor in 1953. He performs primarily in Pulaar, drawing on Fula musical traditions as well as African pop and electronic production. His best-known recordings include the Mansour Seck collaboration Djam Leelii and the albums Firin’ in Fouta, Nomad Soul and Television. In 2005, Baaba Maal performed at Africa Calling, the Live 8 concert held at the Eden Project in Cornwall. Eleven years later, he performed with his band on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival.
