Zion Train & Transglobal Underground in Birmingham

Zion Train are a British dub group formed in Oxford in 1988. Their music sets reggae bass lines and studio dub effects against electronic dance rhythms; key albums include “Passage to Indica,” “Siren” and “Live as One.” Zion Train began performing live in 1990 and developed a touring format centred on Neil Perch’s real-time dub mixing, vocalists and brass players. The group has carried that setup into clubs and open-air events, including performances at Glastonbury Festival and Poland’s Przystanek Woodstock.

Transglobal Underground are a British music collective formed in London in the early 1990s. They play electronic dance music rooted in dub, club rhythms and musical traditions from across Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The single “Temple Head” and the album Dream of 100 Nations established their sound, while vocalist Natacha Atlas became a key early member of the group. During the 1990s, the collective brought its live ensemble to WOMAD and Glastonbury Festival. A 2007 concert at the Royal Festival Hall reunited Transglobal Underground with Natacha Atlas for their first full performance together in several years.
