Balimaya Project in London

Balimaya Project is a British collective formed in London in 2019 by percussionist Yahael Camara Onono. The group plays contemporary jazz rooted in Mandé musical traditions, using layered percussion, brass, kora and vocals. Its principal recordings include the albums Wolo So and When the Dust Settles. Balimaya Project have performed at Glastonbury Festival and WOMAD, presenting their percussion and horn arrangements through a large live ensemble. Their London appearances have also included the Jazz Cafe, where the full band performs the group’s Mandé repertoire and jazz compositions.
