Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is an American orchestra founded in 1916. It performs classical and contemporary orchestral repertoire and is closely associated with conductors David Zinman and Marin Alsop; in 2007, Alsop became the first woman to lead a major American orchestra. Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall became the orchestra’s principal concert home in 1982. Its regional season expanded in 2005 when it established a second home at the Music Center at Strathmore.
Samara Joy is an American jazz singer, born in the Bronx in 1999, whose repertoire centers on standards and vocal jazz. Her self-titled debut was followed by Linger Awhile, which includes “Tight” and “Can’t Get Out of This Mood.” The album earned her the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album, while she also received the Grammy for Best New Artist. Samara Joy performed at the Newport Jazz Festival and Monterey Jazz Festival as she toured the repertoire from Linger Awhile. She later presented A Joyful Holiday, a seasonal concert program featuring members of her musical family alongside her jazz ensemble. She returns frequently to New York for headline dates; Chicago and Los Angeles have also hosted her concerts.
