Benkó Dixieland Band in Budapest

Benkó Dixieland Band is a Hungarian traditional-jazz ensemble founded in 1957 by clarinetist Sándor Benkó. Its repertoire centers on New Orleans jazz, dixieland and ragtime, and the group became known for bringing these styles to Hungarian concert audiences. The band won first prize at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1971 and subsequently performed far beyond Hungary. In later decades, its annual Christmas concerts became a Budapest tradition and were held at the Budapest Congress Center.
