Blackbraid in Brooklyn

Blackbraid is an American black metal project created by Indigenous musician Sgah’gahsowáh in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. The debut album, Blackbraid I, arrived in 2022, followed by Blackbraid II; songs including “Barefoot Ghost Dance on Blood Soaked Soil” and “The Spirit Returns” pair melodic, atmospheric black metal with lyrics rooted in nature and Indigenous identity. In 2023, Blackbraid joined the Decibel Magazine Tour, appearing across North America on a lineup led by Dark Funeral and Cattle Decapitation. Later that year, the touring band played another North American run as part of Wolves in the Throne Room’s Crypt of Ancestral Knowledge tour, which also featured Gaerea.
