Bombino is the stage name of Omara Moctar, a Nigerien Tuareg guitarist, singer and songwriter born in 1980 in Tidene. He plays desert blues and rock in Tamasheq, led by cyclical electric-guitar lines. His best-known records include Nomad, produced by Dan Auerbach, as well as Azel, Deran and Sahel; songs such as Amidin and Azamane Tiliade are central to his catalogue. In 2010, Bombino performed a peace concert at the foot of the Grand Mosque in Agadez after returning from exile, an event documented in Agadez, the Music and the Rebellion. International touring followed, and his full band performed in clubs and theatres as well as at Coachella and the Newport Folk Festival.
