About Carl Palmer
Carl Palmer is an English drummer, born in 1950, known as a founding member of Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Asia after earlier work with Atomic Rooster. His precision and large-scale drum arrangements are central to records including Tarkus, Brain Salad Surgery and Asia’s self-titled debut.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer performed at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970, then brought their progressive rock repertoire to the California Jam in 1974. The Works tour later featured concerts accompanied by an orchestra, including a 1977 performance at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium.
His later concerts with the instrumental trio Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy recast that repertoire for drums, guitar and bass. The 2022 Welcome Back My Friends: The Return of Emerson & Lake production paired Palmer and his live band with filmed performances by Keith Emerson and Greg Lake.
