Chris Smither is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in Miami in 1944 and raised in New Orleans. His music is rooted in acoustic blues, folk and country blues, and his best-known songs include “Love You Like a Man,” “I Feel the Same” and “Leave the Light On.” Bonnie Raitt recorded versions of the first two, while albums such as I’m a Stranger Too and Leave the Light On established his own spare, guitar-led writing. After moving to Boston in the 1960s, Chris Smither played Club 47 in Cambridge as part of the city’s folk scene. The album Live as I’ll Ever Be later documented his concert repertoire. Voice, fingerpicked acoustic guitar and the percussion of his tapping feet have remained central to his solo appearances at Club Passim.
Peter Mulvey is an American folk singer-songwriter and guitarist born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His catalogue includes the albums The Trouble with Poets, The Knuckleball Suite and Silver Ladder, and his narrative writing is heard in songs such as “The Trouble with Poets” and “Shirt.” His early live work included busking in Boston subway stations and on the streets of Dublin. He later toured folk clubs and listening rooms across the United States, and his annual Wisconsin bicycle tours combined days of riding with evening performances. He also organized and performed in the Lamplighter Sessions, a recurring multi-artist concert series at Club Passim in Cambridge.
