Codeine is an American slowcore trio formed in New York in 1989. Stephen Immerwahr, John Engle and Chris Brokaw established the band’s stark, unusually slow sound on Frigid Stars LP; the releases Barely Real and The White Birch completed its original recording run. In 2012, Codeine reunited for concerts around Numero Group’s When I See the Sun box set, returning to the stage after its 1990s breakup. The reunion took the trio through North America and Europe and included a performance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
