Daniil Trifonov & Berliner Barock Solisten in Hamburg

Daniil Trifonov is a Russian pianist and composer, born in Nizhny Novgorod in 1991. He won First Prize and the Grand Prix at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011. His recordings include the Liszt collection Transcendental and the two-part Destination Rachmaninov project. His 2013 Carnegie Hall recital debut was released as the live album Trifonov: The Carnegie Recital. He returned in the 2017–18 season as a Perspectives artist, presenting solo, chamber and orchestral programs. The following season, he served as artist-in-residence with the Berlin Philharmonic. He has given recitals at Royal Festival Hall in London and appeared with orchestra at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

Berliner Barock Solisten is a German chamber orchestra founded in 1995 by musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic and specialists in early music. The ensemble performs seventeenth- and eighteenth-century repertoire and is known for recordings including Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos and Vivaldi’s flute concertos with Emmanuel Pahud. At the Philharmonie Berlin, the ensemble has presented chamber-orchestra and concerto programmes, often bringing guest soloists into historically informed performances. Its festival engagements have included the Salzburg Festival. The musicians use modern instruments, adapting bows and performance practice to the period of each work. Programmes commonly place concertos beside orchestral pieces by composers such as Bach, Telemann and Vivaldi. Beyond its home city, Berliner Barock Solisten has performed at the Musikverein in Vienna and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
