About Das EFX
Das EFX are an American hip-hop duo formed in 1988 by MCs Drayz and Skoob, who met while studying at Virginia State University. Affiliated with EPMD’s Hit Squad, they became known through the 1992 debut album Dead Serious and the singles “They Want EFX” and “Mic Checka.” Their rapid, densely rhymed delivery, often punctuated by “-iggedy” syllables, became their most recognizable vocal device.
Before their first album, Das EFX won a talent contest judged by EPMD, a performance that led to their place in the Hit Squad. Later concerts retained the act’s two-MC format, structured around alternating verses by Drayz and Skoob.
