About Divine
Divine was an American singer, actor and drag performer, born in Baltimore in 1945 and closely associated with filmmaker John Waters. Divine recorded Hi-NRG and dance-pop built around a deliberately larger-than-life persona, becoming known for “Native Love (Step by Step),” “Shoot Your Shot,” “You Think You’re a Man” and “I’m So Beautiful.”
In 1983, Divine performed a full club set at The Haçienda in Manchester, later released as Divine Live at the Haçienda. The following year brought a televised performance of “You Think You’re a Man” on Top of the Pops.
