Don Carlos in Santa Cruz

Don Carlos is a Jamaican roots-reggae singer, born Euvin Spencer in Kingston in 1952. He was an original member of Black Uhuru and built his solo catalogue around albums including Suffering and Harvest Time. “Laser Beam,” “Johnny Big Mouth” and “Just a Passing Glance” are among his best-known songs. In the 1990s, Don Carlos reunited with Black Uhuru, recording and touring with Derrick “Duckie” Simpson and Garth Dennis. He later resumed solo touring with the Dub Vision band and performed at reggae gatherings including Reggae on the River and the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival.
