Drax Project in Wellington

Drax Project are a New Zealand pop band formed in Wellington in 2014. Their music draws on pop, R&B and jazz, reflecting beginnings as a saxophone-and-drums busking duo before the group expanded to four members. They are known for “Woke Up Late,” including a version featuring Hailee Steinfeld, “Toto,” and the SIX60 collaboration “Catching Feelings,” all included on their self-titled debut album. Drax Project supported Lorde on the New Zealand leg of the Melodrama World Tour in 2017, then opened for Ed Sheeran during his 2018 stadium dates in the country. That year they also joined the European leg of Camila Cabello’s Never Be the Same Tour.

Bret McKenzie is a New Zealand singer-songwriter, comedian and composer for film and television, best known as one half of Flight of the Conchords with Jemaine Clement. The duo’s songs include “Business Time” and “Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros,” while his solo work includes the album Songs Without Jokes. He also wrote “Man or Muppet” for The Muppets, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Flight of the Conchords played the Hollywood Bowl in 2010 and returned to arenas for the Flight of the Conchords Sing Flight of the Conchords Tour in 2018. In 2022, he took Songs Without Jokes on a solo headline tour, performing with a full band at theatres including London’s Royal Festival Hall.
