Erykah Badu in Indianapolis

Erykah Badu is an American singer-songwriter from Dallas, born in 1971, who performs neo-soul and R&B informed by jazz, funk and hip-hop. Her 1997 debut album, Baduizm, yielded “On & On”; later signature songs include “Tyrone,” “Bag Lady” and “Window Seat,” while Mama’s Gun and New Amerykah Part One (4th World War) became central works in her catalogue. The 1997 concert album Live was recorded at Sony Music Studios in New York and introduced “Tyrone,” first released as a live recording. In 2004 she performed at Dave Chappelle’s Block Party in Brooklyn and appeared in the concert film that followed; in 2011, she performed with her band at Coachella.

The Alchemist is an American hip-hop producer, DJ and rapper, born Alan Maman in 1977 and raised in Beverly Hills. After beginning as part of the Whooliganz, he built a production catalog that includes Prodigy’s “Keep It Thoro,” Jadakiss’s “We Gonna Make It” and his own “Hold You Down.” His later work includes complete collaborative albums such as Alfredo with Freddie Gibbs, Haram with Armand Hammer and The Price of Tea in China with Boldy James. In the mid-2000s, he toured as Eminem’s DJ, performing in arenas as part of the rapper’s live show. The Voir Dire Tour in 2023 paired him with Earl Sweatshirt for dates in North America and Europe, where he DJed while Earl performed material from their joint album. In 2024, The Alchemist presented a guest-heavy set at Coachella that included appearances by Earl Sweatshirt, Action Bronson and Boldy James.
