Escalandrum in La Plata

Escalandrum is an Argentine jazz sextet formed in 1999 by drummer Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla, grandson of composer Astor Piazzolla. The group plays instrumental jazz shaped by tango, with albums including Misterioso and Piazzolla Plays Piazzolla. Escalandrum has performed at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and Jazzaldia in San Sebastián. Back in Argentina, the sextet has brought its repertoire to Teatro Colón. The concert lineup features three musicians on saxophones and clarinets, joined by piano, double bass and drums. Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla directs the ensemble from the drum kit. The musicians have also performed in New York and Tokyo.
