George Porter Jr. is an American bassist, singer and songwriter born in New Orleans in 1947. He co-founded The Meters, whose syncopated funk shaped recordings including “Cissy Strut,” “Look-Ka Py Py” and “Just Kissed My Baby,” as well as the albums Rejuvenation and Fire on the Bayou. In 1975, The Meters played the Queen Mary party marking the release of Paul McCartney and Wings’ Venus and Mars, then opened for the Rolling Stones on tours in 1975 and 1976. Porter formed George Porter Jr. & Runnin’ Pardners in 1990 to perform his own material and The Meters’ repertoire; his later concert work also included reunions billed as The Funky Meters.
