About Gil Shaham
Gil Shaham is an American violinist, born in Urbana, Illinois, in 1971 and raised in Israel. His repertoire includes music by Bach, Mozart and Brahms, and he is closely associated with the 1930s Violin Concertos project, which brought together works by Barber, Berg, Britten, Hartmann and Stravinsky.
In 1989, Shaham stepped in for an ailing Itzhak Perlman during a series of London Symphony Orchestra concerts conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, performing concertos by Bruch and Sibelius. He has since appeared as a concerto soloist with orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic and New York Philharmonic.
