Gilberto Gil in Rio de Janeiro

Gilberto Gil is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in Salvador in 1942. He helped shape Tropicália alongside Caetano Veloso and built a repertoire spanning MPB, samba, rock and reggae. His best-known works include “Aquele Abraço,” “Toda Menina Baiana” and “Andar com Fé,” as well as the albums Expresso 2222, Refazenda and Refavela. At the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1978, he recorded a concert later released as a live album. In 2015, he and Caetano Veloso toured internationally with Dois Amigos, Um Século de Música, a voice-and-guitar production marking five decades of their artistic partnership; the project was also documented on a concert album. Gilberto Gil plays São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro frequently and has made repeated concert appearances in London.
