GoGo Penguin & Daudi Matsiko in Saint-Germain-en-Laye

GoGo Penguin are a British instrumental trio formed in Manchester in 2012. They play contemporary jazz shaped by electronic music, minimalism and post-rock, using piano, double bass and drums. The album v2.0 was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize, while Man Made Object, A Humdrum Star and Everything Is Going to Be OK further established their tightly patterned sound. In 2018, the trio performed an NPR Tiny Desk Concert while touring A Humdrum Star. They have also appeared at Glastonbury Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival, and later documented their performance work on Live from Studio 2, recorded at Abbey Road Studios. The concert format centres on the close interaction of acoustic instruments, often giving repeated piano and bass figures the momentum of programmed electronic music. The lineup is Chris Illingworth on piano, Nick Blacka on double bass and Jon Scott on drums.

Daudi Matsiko is a British-Ugandan singer-songwriter based in Nottingham who writes spare indie folk led by acoustic guitar. His releases include An Introduction to Failure and the album The King of Misery. He toured as the opening act for GoGo Penguin, presenting his songs in a solo voice-and-acoustic-guitar format. He has also opened concerts for Keaton Henson and Portico Quartet.
