About Gogol Bordello
Gogol Bordello is an American punk band formed on New York City’s Lower East Side in 1999 by Ukrainian-born singer and guitarist Eugene Hütz. The group plays gypsy punk shaped by Eastern European folk music, dub and rock, and is known for “Start Wearing Purple,” “Wonderlust King” and the albums Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike and Super Taranta!.
In 2007, Gogol Bordello performed at Live Earth at Wembley Stadium, where Hütz also joined Madonna for a version of “La Isla Bonita.” Four years later, the band opened for System of a Down on a run of North American dates.
Gogol Bordello performs as a full band led by Hütz on vocals and acoustic guitar. Accordion, violin, electric guitars, bass, drums and percussion are central to its concert arrangements.
They have played Glastonbury Festival in England and Coachella in California. The band has also performed at Bonnaroo in Tennessee.
