Götz Widmann in Wuppertal

Götz Widmann is a German singer-songwriter born in 1965 who performs in the Liedermacher tradition. He first became known as one half of the duo Joint Venture with Martin Simon, then continued as a solo artist after Simon’s death. His repertoire includes “Holland,” “Eduard der Haschischhund” and “Zöllner vom Vollzug abhalten,” pairing acoustic songwriting with satire, politics and songs about drugs and everyday life. Joint Venture spent the 1990s performing in German clubs and cabaret venues, with both musicians singing and playing guitar. After 2000, Widmann carried songs from the duo into his solo concerts alongside his own material, usually accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. His appearances have extended beyond the club circuit to Wacken Open Air.
