About Grupo 5

Grupo 5 is a Peruvian cumbia band founded in 1973 in Monsefú by brothers Elmer and Víctor Yaipén. The family group became a central name in cumbia norteña through songs including “Motor y motivo,” “Te vas,” “Cambio mi corazón” and “El ritmo de mi corazón,” with Christian Yaipén later taking a leading role as vocalist.

In 2023, Grupo 5 celebrated its 50th anniversary with three concerts at Estadio San Marcos in Lima. The anniversary performances also took the band to Arequipa and Cusco, and its international live work included a 2024 concert at Madison Square Garden in New York.
