Hum is an American alternative rock band formed in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, in 1989. The group is known for dense, guitar-heavy space rock, particularly the song “Stars” and its 1995 album You’d Prefer an Astronaut. Downward Is Heavenward followed in 1998, and Hum returned with Inlet in 2020. In 2011, Hum performed at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin during a period of reunion shows. The band joined Failure for a North American tour in 2015 and later performed at Dia de los Deftones in San Diego in 2019.
