Artist
Ibrahim Maalouf is a French-Lebanese trumpeter and composer, born in Beirut in 1980 and raised in France. He plays contemporary jazz shaped by Arabic melodic modes, rock, funk and electronic music, and is known for his quarter-tone trumpet and albums including Diagnostic, Illusions, Kalthoum and Red & Black Light. In 2016, Ibrahim Maalouf marked ten years of recordings and concerts with a show at AccorHotels Arena in Paris. The S3NS tour later took his band into concert halls and festivals, followed by arena and theatre dates built around Capacity to Love. His concerts feature the four-valve quarter-tone trumpet at the center of a full-band performance, leaving room for jazz improvisation and Arabic maqam. The instrument was developed by his father and teacher, trumpeter Nassim Maalouf.
