Jean-Michel Jarre is a French electronic composer and performer, born in Lyon in 1948. He became known through instrumental albums including Oxygène, Équinoxe and Zoolook, while “Oxygène Part IV” remains one of his signature compositions.

In 1979, he performed an open-air concert at Place de la Concorde in Paris. Rendez-vous Houston followed in 1986, using the city skyline as the setting, and in 1990 he staged another outdoor concert in the La Défense district.

His concerts centre on synthesizers and other electronic instruments. The laser harp, played by interrupting beams of light, became a recurring part of his performances.

His outdoor projects have taken him far beyond his native Lyon: in 1997 he performed at Moscow State University for the city’s 850th anniversary, and at the turn of 2000 he presented The Twelve Dreams of the Sun at the pyramids of Giza.
