Julie Fowlis in St Louis

Julie Fowlis is a Scottish singer and multi-instrumentalist born on North Uist in 1978. She performs traditional and contemporary folk music primarily in Scottish Gaelic, and became widely known beyond folk audiences through “Touch the Sky” and “Into the Open Air” for Disney and Pixar’s Brave. Her albums include Mar a Tha Mo Chridhe, Cuilidh and Gach Sgeul. The Transatlantic Sessions concert tours have repeatedly featured Julie Fowlis in an ensemble drawn from Celtic and American roots music. In 2014, she performed during the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony at Celtic Park in Glasgow. From 2019, she also toured with the collaborative Spell Songs project, which set writing from The Lost Words to music. Celtic Connections has presented her work on multiple occasions, while the Hebridean Celtic Festival has brought her Gaelic repertoire to Stornoway. She has also performed at Cambridge Folk Festival.
