Kate Rusby in Gateshead

Kate Rusby is a British folk singer-songwriter, born in 1973 and raised in South Yorkshire. Her 1997 solo debut, Hourglass, introduced a repertoire rooted in traditional songs, while later albums such as Little Lights and Underneath the Stars included songs including “Who Will Sing Me Lullabies?” and “Underneath the Stars.” After the release of Sweet Bells in 2008, her Christmas concerts became a recurring part of her live calendar. In 2017, she marked 25 years as a recording artist with an anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Kate Rusby performs with a full folk band that includes guitarist Damien O’Kane. Her Christmas shows add the Brass Boys and draw on the South Yorkshire carol-singing tradition. Beyond her home region, she has performed at Cambridge Folk Festival and Glastonbury Festival.
