Laura Veirs & Karl Blau in Newcastle upon Tyne

Laura Veirs is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in Colorado Springs in 1973 and long based in Portland, Oregon. Her indie-folk catalog includes the albums Carbon Glacier, Year of Meteors and July Flame, as well as the collaborative record case/lang/veirs with Neko Case and k.d. lang. In 2016, Laura Veirs toured with Neko Case and k.d. lang behind case/lang/veirs, performing material from the record alongside songs from their individual catalogs. Their itinerary included a performance at the Newport Folk Festival.

Karl Blau is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist closely associated with the independent music community in Anacortes, Washington. His catalog moves through lo-fi rock, folk and country, with releases including Beneath Waves, Zebra and Introducing Karl Blau. The latter is a collection of country-song interpretations featuring “Fallin’ Rain” and “That’s How I Got to Memphis.” In 2016, Karl Blau performed material from Introducing Karl Blau in a session for KEXP in Seattle. He also brought songs from the record to NPR’s Tiny Desk, where his voice and guitar were supported by a small band in Washington, D.C.
