Kodō is a Japanese taiko ensemble founded in 1981 and based on Sado Island. The group performs contemporary works rooted in traditional drumming, using taiko of several sizes alongside flute, shamisen, voice and dance. Its recordings include Ibuki and Mondo Head, the latter produced by Mickey Hart. Kodō made its debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981 and launched the One Earth Tour in 1984, establishing a touring program that has taken its ensemble productions to major theatres and concert halls worldwide. In 1988 the group began hosting Earth Celebration, an annual festival on Sado Island centered on its concerts and invited performers.
Hatsune Miku is a Japanese virtual singer released by Crypton Future Media in 2007 as Vocaloid singing-voice software, using samples recorded by voice actress Saki Fujita. Her repertoire is created by many different producers and includes ryo’s “World Is Mine,” kz’s “Tell Your World” and Kurousa-P’s “Senbonzakura.” The first solo Hatsune Miku concert, Miku no Hi Kanshasai 39’s Giving Day, took place at Zepp Tokyo in 2010. The Miku Expo concert series began in Jakarta in 2014 and later mounted tours through North America and Europe. The concert production presents Hatsune Miku as an animated figure projected on a transparent screen. A live band performs the arrangements alongside her synthesized vocals. Hatsune Miku has appeared at the recurring Magical Mirai events in Osaka and Tokyo. In 2024, she also performed at Coachella in Indio.
