Lakecia Benjamin is an American alto saxophonist, composer and bandleader from New York City whose music draws on post-bop, soul and funk. Her albums include Retox, Rise Up, Pursuance: The Coltranes, which interprets music associated with John and Alice Coltrane, and Phoenix. At the 2023 Newport Jazz Festival, Benjamin led her band through material from Phoenix. Her Tiny Desk concert for NPR Music followed in 2024, featuring pianist Zaccai Curtis, bassist Elias Bailey and drummer E.J. Strickland.
