Laraaji is an American ambient musician, composer and meditation practitioner, born Edward Larry Gordon in Philadelphia in 1943. He is known for sustained, contemplative music made with amplified zither, autoharp, keyboards and voice, especially the Brian Eno-produced album Ambient 3: Day of Radiance and the earlier Celestial Vibration. In the late 1970s, he played amplified zither in New York’s Washington Square Park, where Eno heard him and invited him to record. His subsequent concerts have kept improvisation at their center, and he has also presented laughter-meditation workshops as part of his public performance work. In the United States, he has performed at Big Ears in Knoxville. His British appearances have included concerts at Cafe OTO in London.
